Ed Sheeran is set to have a sizable police presence at his upcoming Philadelphia concert amid the ongoing controversy surrounding his Loop Tour. The singer’s team has reportedly been in contact with Philadelphia police ahead of the show.

Security is being increased for Ed Sheeran’s upcoming concert amid the controversy surrounding his Loop Tour. According to TMZ, Jasmine Reilly, a spokesperson for the Philadelphia Police Department, said, “Our officers are talking to his team to make sure all appropriate measures are taken” for the singer’s safety.
Reilly also said there would be a “sizable” police presence at Lincoln Financial Field. He said Sheeran is scheduled to perform on Saturday, September 19. The concert will be his first show since Macklemore was removed from the tour.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that officers would be deployed both inside and outside the stadium. Fans attending the concert will have to pass through metal detectors, while some will also undergo pat-downs.
The sources added that there have been no reported threats against Sheeran as of now. However, that could change before the singer takes the stage Saturday night.
Sheeran has faced backlash amid the controversy surrounding Macklemore’s removal from the tour following the rapper’s pro-Palestinian remarks during a concert in New Jersey. A protest by pro-Palestinian groups is also planned outside the Philadelphia concert.
Macklemore revealed in an Instagram post that Sheeran called him and said Robert Kraft, the owner of Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, wanted Macklemore removed from the tour.
Macklemore also said Sheeran told him that his performances could be cut from future venues. This was if he did not follow the instructions. He was subsequently removed from the tour after several venues reportedly said they would not allow concerts to proceed with him on the lineup.
Sheeran later released a statement saying he was not responsible for Macklemore’s removal. He said that the decision was made by the tour’s promoter.
The Philadelphia concert will take place as the controversy continues, with additional police presence planned around the venue.
