Deion Sanders is celebrating a major milestone after receiving prosthetic toes. Four years ago, blood clots led to the amputation of two of his toes. Now, the 59-year-old Colorado Buffaloes coach has tried on his new toes. As he begins learning to walk with them, he joked his way through the emotional moment.

Sanders’ son, Deion Jr., shared a video on X of the moment on social media Wednesday, September 16. In the clip, a hospital employee tells Sanders, “Your toes are in here,” before handing him the package containing his new prosthetic toes.
Sanders immediately joked that they were “wrapped up like they’re a gift.” He then checked out his new toes, complimenting the “nice toenail” and joking that the reveal was “hilarious.” After trying them on, he declared, “I’m 10 toes down again!” He also said he could finally return to wearing his size 11.5 shoes and praised the “color match” of the prosthetics to his skin.
The moment also gave Sanders a chance to thank everyone who helped him reach this point. He expressed gratitude for those involved in “getting me back to being 10 toes down again.”
Sanders lost two toes in 2022 after they turned black following a surgery in September to treat a dislocated toe and inflamed nerve. Doctors later discovered that a blood clot had formed in his femoral artery, one of the major arteries supplying the leg.
Recalling how serious the situation became, Sanders said doctors discussed the possibility of amputating more of his leg. “They were talking about the amputation of toes,” he said. “Then they were talking about the amputation of my leg from the knee down. Then, they were trying to ensure I had life.”
Sanders later faced bladder cancer and underwent surgery to remove his cancerous bladder. In June, he announced that he was “cancer-free.”
Now, Sanders is moving forward with his prosthetic toes and called the moment “a blessing.”
